How Seinfeld Made Me a Feminist

It's an old one but I have to write it here.

Remember this bit? It's from the first episode of Seinfeld. I know because I stopped watching after that.

He's talking about an ad for laundry detergent that talks about getting bloodstains out of clothes. And he says "maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem right now?" and everybody laughs.

Guess what Jerry, women menstruate.

Next time make sure you have at least one woman at the table read.

(*I didn't stop watching because of some ideological problem, I just thought it was so stupid and figured this show wasn't worth watching, that's all.)

Women in Leadership

Just saw this ad on Facebook and it made me want to post something angry, but instead I'll politely write about it on my blog because I'm a lady.

The ad feels a little extreme for me, although I know one of the founders of this organization and her intentions are in the right place. We know that orthodox men like to put women in the corner - there are no women in Haredi politics - but it's more than that:

This long war that's taking our men to the reserves is causing feminism to take a step back. I left my job in tech because I couldn't keep up with my home. Now I'm a seamstress. Which i love, but goes against all the feminist education I was raised on.

I strongly believe women need to take leadership roles. I always thought I would be a woman in leadership (yes I read Lean In) . But that's not a thing right now, for me and for lots of other women, because of the war.

And yeah, our very male leadership is responsible for this situation.
