"Coming Forward"
One of the things that drives me crazy in this war is how tragedies are presented on each side. The Palestinians will publish photos and videos of dead babies or other horrific situations. The Israelis publish photos of smiling hostages, good looking soldiers, and sometimes photos of destroyed buildings but hardly ever of the people that were in them.
And that's what swings international opinions - people follow their hearts, and their hearts follow the images that they see. And the Palestinians look like helpless victims.
WTF??
Who sees a father holding his dead child and says, hold on, let me just take a video and post it online?? In that situation you go call for help.
Who sees an injured baby and decides to take a photo instead of treating the wound?
Israelis talk about their traumas, of course they do, but they do it with therapists or with the army mental health hotline. My friend David worked at the hotline for months after October 7th and says he heard some horrible testimonies, most of which never made it to the press. A few months ago there was a British report of the atrocities of Oct 7th and David says there were some cases that weren't even mentioned in the report. And of course it's not his job to publish them, his job is to file a report with the army mental health unit. Only the victims can decide whether or not to come forward with their story.
